Opening sequences
This is one example of an opening sequence in the Corpse Bride. It gives an insight to the time period, setting a main characters of the scene. It also portrays the characters attitudes by the way they interact with the butterfly in order to show the audience which are the good and bad characters without revealing any of the storyline. Sadly this clip uses different music to that originally used in the opening sequence, but the music used originally at first creates a slow and whimsical atmosphere which later becomes a little faster in tempo and gives off and old fashioned theme. The original music is included below the clip in order to demonstrate the points I noted on it. The colour theme of this opening sequence is monochrome with little bursts of colour such as on the butterfly to draw our attention to it.
Match on action
Definition: Match on action is continuity editing in which one shot cuts to another and therefore portrays an action. And example of this is shown in my Preliminary task, the opening and walking through of a door. Other examples include:
This scene is from the Matrix and has some clear example of match on action/match cut action. One such example is when Trudy (The short haired lady) flips off the wall in order to dodge. It is a clear example and it follows the action through from start to finish using 3 different shots.

My Preliminary Task-Drugs
Here is my Preliminary Task. It is a Short 30 second clip showing a girl walking along a corridor, through a door, sitting down and having a conversation with a drug dealer. This clip demonstrates match on action and the 180 degree rule. However I would include more shot reverse shot if I re-did it. If I did the task again I would include shot reverse shot close-ups of each characters faces to show clearly their expressions and set the mood for the piece more and make the atmosphere more suspicious. I would also make sure I thought more clearly about the positioning of the tripod as one error which occurred was that in the back of a shot of the two having a conversation you could clearly see the tripod. When doing my Main Task I intend to make sure such errors do not occur again.
